About Derek May

Derek May, Business Doctor for Lanarkshire joined the team with more than 30 years’ experience. From chief executive of a Scottish Business Insider Top 500 company, various senior Finance roles with blue chip companies, and running his own accountancy practice supporting local SMEs.

His areas of expertise include business growth, sales and business development, exit planning, turnaround, change, management information systems, cash flow management and mergers & acquisitions.

Derek’s business philosophy is to keep things simple. Have a vision, craft a plan around that vision, make the plan a reality, keep the score as you go along, watch your cash and above all do not allow business experts to complicate things.

Derek is a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, is on the Board of the Scottish homeless charity Y People and is involved in the West of Scotland committee of the Institute of Directors. In his spare time, he enjoys football, working (unsuccessfully) on his six pack at the gym, politics and current affairs.
